Villas, Lobster & Boats – perfect escape in the Gulf islands

I went to the Gulf islands without a grand plan — just a suitcase, a playlist, and a soft idea that “island time” would sort the rest out. What surprised me most was discovering that August (yes, August) can be one of the most comfortable months to visit Gulf islands: warm, beach-friendly days and — for us — quiet, almost private stretches of sand. The weather in Ko Samui in August tends to be warm with pleasant highs around the high 20s–low 30s °C, which made long beach afternoons totally doable. Here’s how the trip unfolded — hotels I adored, meals I still dream about, and the easy packing rules I’m sworn to after days spent barefoot.

Больше всего меня удивило то, что август (да, август) может быть одним из самых комфортных месяцев для поездки на тайские острова: тепло, идеальные пляжные дни и — для нас — почти пустые пляжи, словно они были нашими. Погода на Ко Самуи в августе оказалась тёплой, с приятными дневными температурами, что делало долгие пляжные вечера очень приятными. Ниже — как прошла поездка: мои любимые отели, блюда, о которых я до сих пор мечтаю, и правила сборки чемодана, которые я безгранично советую после дней проведённых босиком.

Koh Samui felt like the softest start: reserved beaches, warm water, and not a crowd in sight. My absolute favorite hideaway was Vana Belle — their pool villas are the kind of rooms that make you forget you ever had a to-do list. Private pools, attentive, tailor-made guest care and an honest sense of calm that’s rare even on postcard-perfect islands. It’s the kind of place that reads like luxury but feels like someone carefully arranged serenity just for you.

On the other end of the spectrum — but still a gem — we found a more budget-friendly option: Chaweng Paradise (our villa felt like a small treasure with sea views mere steps away). For those who want sea-on-the-doorstep without the ultra-luxe price tag, this was a smart pick: a villa with a terrace facing the water and that rare island privacy.

Gourmet notes — I will never stop thinking about:

  • Sala Thai — classic, fresh, and really true to Samui’s flavors. (A definite revisit if you love local recipes.)
  • Benzo Sushi — perfect for nights when you want something light and refined.
  • Sabienglae — fresh lobster done right; island seafood is a reason to travel in itself.
  • Phensiri — authentic Samui recipes, many of them centuries old, prepared with pride.

Koh Phangan surprised me with how easy it is to escape the headline-Full-Moon scene. We stayed at Santhiya (Santhiya Koh Phangan Resort & Spa) — a dream of teak, bamboo and private corners. One practical luxury that mattered most: the hotel’s private speedboat transfer. Walking off the dock at the hotel rather than being herded with crowds made all the difference. If you, like me, value calm arrivals and departures, that private transfer felt indulgent and utterly worth it.

There’s a little magic here called the bamboo wonderland — perfect for wandering, reading in the rain, and feeling like the world has slowed to a whisper. For dinners, we became regulars at 55 Beach Restaurant — toes in sand, a grill that won us over every night, and simple live music that made everything feel celebratory.

Packing — the best travel styling tip you’ll get from me

This trip kicked any “what should I wear” anxiety out of my suitcase. You don’t need the wardrobe of a metropolis here. My uniform for nearly the entire stay: flip-flops (or barefoot), bikini, pareo, a light linen shirt, and whichever dress I would wear most at home. Pack light. Pack favorites. The islands reward you for the simplicity.

  • Go in the shoulder/low season if you can — you might find the beaches almost to yourself. (We did.)
  • Book at least one hotel with a private transfer if you value calm arrivals (Santhiya’s private boat is a lovely example)
  • Eat where the locals and hotel staff point you — the best dishes are rarely on the glossy top-10 lists.

August in Thailand taught me that island travel doesn’t always mean blistering crowds and bad weather. For us it was warm sea days, empty beaches, and more attention to made-to-measure service than I’d expected. Between Vana Belle’s pool villas, our little sea-view Chaweng villa, the cliffside calm of Santhiya and surprise-sushi at Anantara — this trip was an ode to slow luxury and delicious discoveries. If you want a trip that’s about gentle mornings, barefoot afternoons and meals you’ll dream about, put these islands on your list — and pack light.

Milan Fashion Week Fall Winter 2023/2024: My Impressions

Milano Moda Donna is in full swing, and I’m excited to share my initial thoughts!

Let’s all begin with the Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini performance. I was delighted to witness such a historic event, as Lorenzo Serafini completely altered his style and direction. His new collection was more feminine and sophisticated. What I adore!

Emporio Armani in Armani theatre also impressed me. Armani stated that the concept of Elizabethan theatrical costume as a protagonist in the emphasis of character influenced this collection. The looping black ribbon neckpieces — a reimagined ruff — worn over shimmering blue and green velvet suits and ruffle collared and bibbed pink silk shirts alluded to this.

For the show, I dressed more casually. I wanted something out of the ordinary. As a result, the photographs of Guy Bourdin, whose exhibition was presented after the show, left a lasting impression on my bow.

During fashion week, I created the most varied images. From a delicate and romantic white duo to a bold look with trendy cargo pants, there’s something for everyone. So, for the presentation of Bulgari’s autumn-winter 23/24 bag collection, I wore a grunge ensemble consisting of an Isabelle Blanche dress, a Golden Goose jacket, and a Dolce Gabbana bag.

На этой неделе моды я создала максимально разнообразные образы. От нежного и романтичного белого дуэта, до смелого наряда с трендовыми брюками-карго. Так, на презентацию коллекции сумок осень-зима 23/24 от Bulgari я выбрала гранжевый наряд, который состоял из платья от Isabelle Blanche, куртки Golden Goose и сумки от Dolce Gabbana.

There was also room in my closet for a romantic duo of white Babylon top and Isabelle Blanche skirts. YSL boots completed the look. Mocker’s bomber jacket added a non-traditional touch to the side.

В моем гардеробе нашлось место и романтичному дуэту из белых кофты от Babylon и юбки от Isabelle Blanche. Дополнили наряд ботинки от YSL. А бомбер от Mocker добавил наряду нестандартности.

From the intriguing: not far from the Monte Napoleone metro station is a branded Loro Piana bus, where everyone can warm up with warm tea or coffee and receive cool branded glasses as a gift. Concerning transportation, by the way. During fashion week, I mostly use public transportation. There are beautiful trams in Milan, so you can take bright Instagram photos on your way to the event.

Кстати, о транспорте. Во время недели моды я в основном передвигаюсь на общественном транспорте. В Милане очень красивые трамваи, так что можно сделать яркие фото для своего Инстаграм по пути на мероприятие.

It was especially nice to unwind in the comfortable chairs of the Milanese restaurant Seta after a long day. The food here is truly gourmet. It’s no surprise that the restaurant has two Michelin stars. Despite the fact that the restaurant’s price tag is quite high, I recommend treating yourself to this pleasure. You will not be disappointed!

После насыщенного событиями дня особенно приятно было отдохнуть в комфортных креслах миланского ресторана Seta. Еда здесь — истинное удовольствие для гурмана. Недаром у заведения есть две звезды Мишлен. Несмотря на то, что ценник у ресторана достаточно высокий, я рекомендую позволить себе это наслаждение. Вы не пожалеете!

Inspirational Places in Paris: My Personal Guide

If you are an aesthete and fashion lover, and are going to Paris in the near future, I have compiled a city guide for you, thanks to which you will definitely leave here with a lot of impressions. What exhibitions to visit, where to have breakfast and where to get inspiration, read on.

When traveling to Paris, I advise you to see the exhibitions of Frida Kahlo in PALAIS GALLIERA, Schiaparelli Musée des Arts Décoratifs and Azzedine Alaïa Foundation. Tickets for these exhibitions cost from 8 to 15 euros. It is worth allocating about an hour and a half for each of them in order to enjoy the art calmly, without haste.

Во время путешествия я советую обязательно посетить выставки Фриды Кало в PALAIS GALLIERA, Schiaparelli в Musée des Arts Décoratifs и Azzedine Alaïa Foundation. Paris has long been considered as a food mecca. So, where to go for breakfast, and where is it better to stop for a glass of delicious champagne?

For breakfast, I advise you to go to the cute cafe La perle. If the weather is sunny, take a seat on the cozy terrace and enjoy delicious food in the heart of bustling Paris. Breakfast here will cost you about 15 euros. In the evenings, you can also drop in here for a drink — a noisy party of Parisians gathers here. But for me in the evening it is too crowded, so I prefer to go here for breakfast.

Париж издавна считается кулинарной меккой. Итак, куда же сходить на завтрак, а где лучше остановиться на бокал вкуснейшего шампанского?

На завтрак я советую отправиться в милое кафе La perle. Если погода будет солнечной, расположитесь на уютной террасе и насладитесь вкусной пищей в самом сердце бурлящего жизнью Парижа. Завтрак здесь обойдется вам примерно в 15 евро. По вечерам тоже можно заглядывать сюда на дринк — здесь собирается шумная тусовка парижан. Но для меня вечером здесь слишком многолюдно, поэтому я предпочитаю ходить сюда именно на завтраки.

For lunch or dinner, you can go to the historic meeting place in the city Cafe charlot or Le Castiglione bar. If you want something truly luxurious, visit new places in Paris: a restaurant with good service and delicious food, La plume (on the picture), or a place with a chic terrace and divine drinks Bonnie.

На обед или ужин можно отправиться в историческое место встреч в городе Cafe charlot или в Le Castiglione бар. Если хочется чего-то поистине роскошного, посетите новые места Парижа: ресторан с хорошим сервисом и вкусной едой La plume или же место с шикарной террасой и божественными напитками Bonnie (на фото внизу).

If on a trip you can’t avoid work, you can come with a laptop and work while drinking a cup of fine coffee at Bonjour Jacob Canal Saint Martin Coffee I Magazine I Vinyl. You can also buy a great book there. I love places that combine both an art object and delicious cuisine.

What to See, Eat and Wear on the French Riviera: My Côte d’Azur Hot Spots

I was BLESSED to spend my summer by the sea in Italian and French Riviera. This incredibly chic, refined yet understated and relaxed destination is something of the best God can give you for vacations. For three months I was travelling the coast up and down, discovering its crème de la crème. Here are my list of inspiring and romantic ideas for a Riviera trip.

Touring historical villas is my kind of cultural travel! I get extremely inspired by their interiors, calm atmosphere and stories about the glorious past. This time I visited some amazing villas in Bordighera – Villa Garnier and Villa Margherita. It calls for some class in your look: opt for some chic and feminine dress. I opted for an Ermanno Scervino piece in amazing lemon shade.

Château de la Chèvre d’or was love on first sight. It’s a pure luxury with incredible atmosphere: located on a cliff with beautiful green terraces, sea view infinity pool, marble Cupids everywhere and the testiest Bellini’s on the sunlit terrace.

You can get to Chèvre d’or from Eze, a charming little Provencal town. The shuttles will bring you from the parking straight to the chateaux uphill.

La Guérite is one of my favourite seaside restaurants on the Coast. Located on a charming beach of Île Sainte-Marguerite just outside Cannes, it’s accessible by boat, and the chicest yachtsmen from all the Mediterranean come here to lunch on lobsters and grilled fish.

In Antibes I hugely recommend visiting the restored waterfront fort where stands The Nomade, a large sculpture by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. The old Medieval city with its narrow streets is lovely for an afternoon stroll.

На Антибах я настоятельно рекомендую посетить отреставрированный форт на набережной, где стоит большая скульптура «Номад» испанского артиста Жауме Пленса. Старый средневековый город с его узкими улочками прекрасен для послеобеденной прогулки.

Another pretty little town to discover is La Turbie on the border between France and Italy. It was founded in Roman empire times and many houses you see around were built with original Roman stones.

My look for travelling around small ancient towns was inspired by 1970s fashion – it seems a perfect match with this atmosphere! I chose a suede mini skirt and a denim bustier in sea-blue shade.

Saint-Tropez is a must visit for Riviera lovers: nothing can be compared to the charm of this town made famous by Brigitte Bardot! Now it’s the chic jetsetters’ hangout, so the port is packed with beautiful boats and the streets filled with sport cars.

La Petite Plage is one of my favourite restaurants in town. Start with oysters and champagne, then pass to discovering high cuisine by chef Eric Frechon. And in Nice, La Petite Maison is the best address for foodies. It’s great for celebrity spotting: when I was dining her, Bono from U2 was sitting next to me!

When I’m back in Turin, I’m focus on cream of the cream in what the Northern city can offer. Having lived here for more than four years, I’m still in love with Torino’s impeccable sense of style, quality food and taste for contemporary art. Here’re my favourite places to save on your moodboard for a weekend in Piemonte!

Gran Balon

Balon is a regular antiques and vintage fair in Turin: the Saturday market is a historical one, held every week since 1857 in the neighbourhood uniting the streets of Borgo Dora, Cottolengo, Lanino, Mameli and Cortile del Maglio. The bigger antiques market is organised every second Sunday of the month. It’s the best place to find some unique furniture and home decor, as well as vintage clothing and accessories from 1970s.

Hands down, it the best 5 o’clock in Turin – the Italian way, of course! It means no tea but a good glass of prosecco, francicorta or a fine cocktail. You feel like a queen when elegantly dressed staff brings you a silver tray full of delicacies to accompany your aperitivo. Floris is not only a bar: it’s a very special mix of a flower shop, decor & niche perfumery boutique, so make sure to check their assortment before heading to drinks.

I’m so lucky to have the most wonderful followers. When I came to to Torino, one of my readers invited me to the city’s most innovative gastronomic restaurant. Al Garamond is a pure joy for gourmands. The chef Santino Nicosia marries Sicilian flavours with finest Piedmontese produce, spicing it with love and passion for quality food. We tasted a carpaccio from Alba veal, garden tagliolini in beetroot juice and asparagus with egg Monferrina style. Delicious!

Green Pea

The world’s first Green Retail Park opened at Lingotto in Turin half a year ago. Green Pea covers a building of 15,000 square meters, sustainable in all details. The project has given life to a place with the characteristics of a natural organism, able to breathe and make people breathe, to demonstrate the importance of a more sustainable life through its own beauty: it is not surprising that the building is surrounded by more than 2,000 trees, plants and shrubs. The rooftop swimming pool is a real delight!

Первый в мире Green Retail Park открылся в районе Lingotto полгода назад. Green Pea занимает здание площадью 15 000 квадратных метров, эко-сознательное во всех деталях. Проект дал жизнь месту с характеристиками живого организма, способного дышать. Здание окружено двумя тысячами деревьев, растений и кустарников. Бассейн на крыше – настоящая изюминка!

Peter Lindbergh at Paratissima

Paratissima Art Station brings the works of one of my favourite fashion photographers to Turin. “Untold Stories” is the very first retrospective exhibition curated by Peter Lindbergh himself. In Turin, the project will be presented at the ARTiglieria Con/temporary Art Center from 13th May to 13th August. I was mesmerised by this genius assembling of penetrating images of women seen through his camera.

Paratissima Art Station привезли в Турин работы одного из моих любимых модных фотографов. «Нерассказанные истории» – первая ретроспективная выставка, которую курирует сам Питер Линдберг. В Турине проект будет представлен в арт-центре ARTiglieria с 13 мая по 13 августа. Я была очарована этим гениальным коллажем из снимков женщин с сильным характером, увиденных через призму его объектива.

Not only Michelin-worth restaurants can boast of cooking the best pasta. The one I tasted at “La Bocca” it was one of the most delicious experiences. The combination of home-made pasta dough and fresh Sicilian shrimps with asparagus was pure perfection. As well as their egg with seasonal asparagus: I definitely reccommend this place for a gourmet lunch!

Не только рестораны со звездой Мишлен могут похвастаться приготовлением лучшей пасты. Та, которую я попробовала в “La Bocca”, была одной из самых восхитительных в моей жизни. Сочетание домашних тальолини и свежих сицилийских креветок с аспарагусом было настоящим совершенством. А также их яйцо с сезонной спаржей: я определенно рекомендую это место для изысканного обеда!

Gift Guide: What to Bring From Africa

I’ve just returned from my fabulous exotic trip to Uganda (stay tuned for a travel feature soon!), and my bags are full of souvenirs and locally made gifts from my friends and loved ones. It’s impossible to come back with empty hands: Africa is full of fantastic artisanal goods at a great price. One thing: never forget to bargain! It’s a rule here.

Я только что вернулась из сказочной экзотической поездки в Уганду (следите за обновлениями, скоро выходит тревел-статья о моем путешествии!), и мои чемоданы полны местных сувениров и подарков для друзей и близких. Вернуться с пустыми руками было бы просто невозможно: Африка полна фантастических товаров ручной работы по отличной цене. Один момент: никогда не забывайте торговаться! Здесь это является правилом.

You already know that I’m a big fan of sun hats, and Africa is a paradise for a hat-lover like me. They produce them by hand using the leaves of a palmtree. Thanks to this current trend for ethnic artisanal accessories, having a hat like this will make you the summer star. I adore the wide-brimmed models that will protect well from the heat. Apart from neutral classic shades, you can find also the hats with colourful strings of viola and pastel coral.

Благодаря тренду на этнические аксессуары ручной работы, который царит сейчас в мире моды, такая шляпа сделает из вас звезду лета. Обожаю модели с широкими полями, которые хорошо защищают от жары. Помимо нейтральных классических оттенков, вы можете найти шляпы с яркими нитками пастельных тонов сиреневого и кораллового.

Beading is the main craft in Africa, and buying some accessories in this local technique is a must. I would recommend sandals. Just look at my pair, they look as Giuseppe Zanotti’s! They are bohemian, comfortable and extremely chic. I’m sure that no-one in Milan will remain indifferent. My fashionable friends will definitely order me some pairs from the next trip. And then, stock up on amazing earrings and massive tribal belts to wear over your jeans.

For interior decor lovers in Uganda there are lots of temptations. Like the trendiest fur carpets in tribal ethnical style that all the design magazines go crazy about. Almost every African household has domestic animals, and they produce amazing goat and cow carpets in patchwork technique. I like this exuberant mix of colours and textures which instantly add some spice to your home. And for your console mirror there’re some amazing horn hair combs.

Для любителей домашнего декора интерьера в Уганде также немало соблазнов. Как эти трендовые меховые ковры в этническом стиле, по которым сходят с ума дизайнерские журналы. Почти в каждом африканском доме есть скот, и местные жители производят удивительные ковры из шкур коз и коров в технике пэчворк. Мне нравится микс цветов и фактур в таких коврах, ведь они мгновенно придают изюминку интерьеру. А для вашего трюмо в Африке можно найти удивительные роговые гребни для волос.

Are you a gourmand? Well, Africa knows how to surprise your palate. I fell in love with Ugandan dark and milk chocolate, from Equator as they call it. The taste is deep and luxurious. To refresh the tastebuds, have a cup of strong local coffee. As for the small souvenirs for everyone, I brought some beautifully hand-painted postcards with scenes from local life, zebra-style bookmarks and giraffe pencils. Even the simplest things are gorgeous in Uganda!
