I adore silk scarves: as you already know, I use them all year round, either at the beach or on the boat or in the city, styling it with the outerwear. This season Dior has my favorite ones, vintage-looking small silk bandanas with prints. It could be worn covering the head as they did it in 60s and 70s, or pleated in two as a wide ribbon.

Do you want to know a beach vacation destination that needs to be on everyone’s radar? It’s the Lido of Venice, Italy! The place used to be the most fashionable holiday spot in the beginning of the XX century: Coco Chanel, Marlene Dietrich and the main European royals vacationed here. Now it’s this sand stripe of a town is frequented and loved by Venetians. I’ve discovered it during my stay, and went nuts about it!

I’m not the only one to appreciate the post-modern beauty of Venetian Lido: Rick Owens, the coolest Belgian designer, has a house here and spends all his summer swimming, having strong espressos and working from his office with sea view. He even has an atelier in the basement! Definitely, ‘Venice beach’ inspires him for his collections.

One of the most precious things about Lido is its nature: on the extreme east and extreme west of the island there are wild dunes with plenty of endemic plants growing directly from the sand. It’s so peaceful and beautiful to chill there listening to the birds and sea waves.

And of course, you should come for the film festival! The Biennale of cinema happens every year in the beginning of September.

After a week sailing on the boat in Sardinia, I craved some cultural inspiration to change the scene. That’s why I decided to go to Venice as soon as I was back from my sea holidays. One of my best friends became Venitian resident two years ago, so visiting her is always a good idea.

We were blessed to escape the crowds (there’re quite a lot of tourists in this time of the year, but my friend knows the secret angles of the city, where one can admire the calm of the canal waters and beautiful ancient architecture). To satisfy my hunger for contemporary art, I went straight to Contini Gallery, one of my favorite cultural spots in Venice.

Discovering the secret corners of the city is one of the biggest pleasures during my trips to the Lagoon city. This time I was fortunate to find out about the garden of Ca’ Rezzonico: the palazzo is the museum of 1700s art, and the garden is the most peaceful and beautiful places I’ve seen. The next goal: to make friends with the owners of Palazzo Gradenigo (see the picture with the arch) to sneak to their beautiful private garden.

Not everyone knows that Venice is the city of historical pastry shops. For me it’s impossible not to eat one or two croissants per day when I’m in town. And they are definitely worth it! One of my favorite places is Pasticceria Rio Marin: I come to have breakfast here every day.

And cicchetti, the small snacks, are among the best in the city. The owner, a Venetian lady, has even written a recipe book about them!

In this picture you can notice a hint of ‘Acqua Alta’, the phenomenon of high water typical in Venice. Here it already covers a part of the footpath at Rialto market! But don’t worry: the water gets higher due the tides, and it will return low in a few hours.

Seeing my friend Elena after more than half a year since the last time was such a joy! And we have lots of common memories about Venice – in 2017 our friendship got started during the trip to Art Biennale together.

We’ve toured together the vintage stores (stay tuned to get the list of the best ones in my next posts!), walked and lunched out in the coolest places. For a quick lunch we’ve discovered together an amazing Ciak bar close to San Toma little square, where I’ve tried Sarde in Saor, sweet and sour sardines Venetian style, and fish polpette, delicious local fishballs. As a tradition, we always go to drink Bellini cocktail to Al Chioschetto bar at Zattere: they are among the few places where Bellini is made with real fresh peach juice!

I have a big passion for vintage clothing, so I’ve checked out all the stores during my trip to Venice. It’s amazing how many of them you can find in the city, full of hidden treasures. You definitely need a guide to tour the best ones: the vintage shops here don’t have any websites or social media, so it’s a quest to find them! Going nuts about your vintage find? Keep calm and study every angle with extreme attention. Is it the same beautiful inside? Does it have the signs of age? Is it torn or worn out inside? The price should be bargained on the base of the real condition, not the name: even a vintage Louis Vuitton truck from 1979 should be examined closely!

Getting more professional in the world of vintage, you will know better and better the typical prices for one or another item. It’s very important to understand what costs just right, what is too expensive and what is a real bargain. If the price is too high for a brand item, better don’t buy. And don’t be afraid of asking for a discount! The sellers can be ready to go down with the price, especially if the item is in the shop for a long time.

When it comes to a suit (whether it’s a trouser or a skirt suit, or knit pants and top, a tunic and shorts), shop owners usually prefer to sell them together. But don’t be shy and ask to separate them! You’re not obligated to buy both, if you like only a part of the set.

Here’s a nice breakdown of what it takes to get places. The brains in your head give your body the directions it needs to take you where you want to go. You just have to know where it is you want to go. Determining your destination is priority one. What the brain can dream up, the body can fulfill as long as there is a strong determination and a clear vision of what it is that is wanted.
