Do you want to know a beach vacation destination that needs to be on everyone’s radar? It’s the Lido of Venice, Italy! The place used to be the most fashionable holiday spot in the beginning of the XX century: Coco Chanel, Marlene Dietrich and the main European royals vacationed here. Now it’s this sand stripe of a town is frequented and loved by Venetians. I’ve discovered it during my stay, and went nuts about it!

В начале ХХ века это был один из самых модных курортов Европы: здесь отдыхали Коко Шанель, Марлен Дитрих и главные члены королевских семей. Теперь же эту песчаную полосу в двадцати минутах езды от Венеции посещают и любят сами венецианцы. Я открыла Лидо во время моей последней поездки, и влюбилась в этот пляж!
I’m not the only one to appreciate the post-modern beauty of Venetian Lido: Rick Owens, the coolest Belgian designer, has a house here and spends all his summer swimming, having strong espressos and working from his office with sea view. He even has an atelier in the basement! Definitely, ‘Venice beach’ inspires him for his collections.

One of the most precious things about Lido is its nature: on the extreme east and extreme west of the island there are wild dunes with plenty of endemic plants growing directly from the sand. It’s so peaceful and beautiful to chill there listening to the birds and sea waves.
Один из самых ценных аспектов Лидо – это его природа: на крайнем востоке и крайнем западе острова есть дикие дюны с множеством эндемичных растений, растущих прямо из песка. Здесь так приятно и красиво загорать, слушая птиц и шум волн.
The sea is not deep at all. It’s tender, warm and calm, so it is perfect for those who are afraid of deep waters – and also for young mothers with children as well.

The shore is full of nice small bars and kiosks where you can have a coffee, a glass of whine, a panino or fresh figs from the owner’s garden. My favorite was Da Nato, with the most incredible pine trees growing above the tables.
На берегу много классных маленьких баров и киосков, где можно заказать кофе, бокал вина, панино или свежий инжир из сада хозяина. Мне больше всего понравился Da Nato, где над столами росли самые невероятные сосны.
Lido is not only about the beach: it has lots of beautiful streets with lush vegetation and curious old style villas, so I think it will be perfect to take a stroll in any time of the year. And of course, you should come for the film festival! The Biennale of cinema happens every year in the beginning of September.
Лидо – это не только пляж: здесь много красивых улиц со стильными старинными виллами, утопающими в буйной растительности. Поэтому мне кажется, что здесь можно гулять в любое время года. И, конечно же, нужно обязательно приехать на кинофестиваль! Биеннале проводится ежегодно в начале сентября.
