Glen Luchford’s Milan solo exhibition – why I’m counting the days

There are certain names in fashion photography that just make you stop in your tracks. For me, Glen Luchford has always been one of them. His images don’t just sell clothes – they pull you into a story, like a scene from a movie you don’t want to end. And now, for the first time ever, his world is coming to Milan in a solo exhibition at 10 Corso Como. Honestly? I’m already clearing my schedule.

You’ll see how an idea grows from a simple proof image into something that ends up defining a brand’s whole mood for a season. That’s what I love most about his work – he builds worlds, not just pictures.

And let’s talk about the journey that brought him here. Luchford started young, shooting bands for The Face magazine, hanging out in London’s underground scene. He was one of the first to capture a young Kate Moss wandering NYC streets – way before she became “Kate Moss.” Then Prada trusted him with campaigns that completely changed how fashion could be photographed. Later came Gucci, YSL, Calvin Klein… you name a brand or a top magazine, he’s shaped their visual language. And the list of people he’s photographed? Björk, Tilda Swinton, Dennis Hopper – icons meeting an icon behind the lens.

Seeing his work up close feels like a masterclass in that kind of lasting impact.

Dior and I

Now that all the eyes are on Raf Simons (who has just signed the contract of co-designing for Prada), I’m especially curious to get to know better about his creative process. This movie dedicated to his time at Dior is believed to be one of the best fashion documentaries ever: the movies shows where Simons finds inspiration, how he leads the work of the atelier and how he sets a fashion show decorated with thousands of real flowers.

Saint Laurent

In 2014 two films about Yves Saint Laurent were released simultaneously. I’ve seen the one by Jalil Lespert (which was sponsored by Saint Laurent’s long-time companion, Pierre Bergé), but the other one seems to be even more stylish and provocative. It’s directed by Bertrand Bonello, and shows the rebellious bohemian spirit of Yves, and his chic hangouts with his two muses, Loulou de la Falaise and Betty Catroux.

The Director

Today Gucci is synonymous to Alessandro Michele, but back in 2014, it was Frida Giannini who ruled the Florentine fashion house. And she was verrry chic – just like a real Roman woman can be. It’s interesting that in the movie (directed by James Franco, by the way!) we can see Alessandro Michele for the first time: in those days he worked with Frida as the designer responsible for the accessories.

Valentino. The Last Emperor

It’s hard to believe that this film about Valentino Garavani was released back in 2008 – it looks so up-to-date even 10 years after! The director Matt Tyrnauer, who was the Special Correspondent for Vanity Fair, shot more than 250 hours of footage from Valentino’s most private spaces, talking with the iconic designer about his family, career, home interiors and celebrity clients through years.

In 2020 it will be 10 years since Alexander McQueen has left us – and it’s the right moment to watch this amazing documentary dedicated to one of the most talented designers of all time. He continues to be my personal favourite one even now – because the beauty she created is really timeless.
