Villas, Lobster & Boats – perfect escape in the Gulf islands

I went to the Gulf islands without a grand plan — just a suitcase, a playlist, and a soft idea that “island time” would sort the rest out. What surprised me most was discovering that August (yes, August) can be one of the most comfortable months to visit Gulf islands: warm, beach-friendly days and — for us — quiet, almost private stretches of sand. The weather in Ko Samui in August tends to be warm with pleasant highs around the high 20s–low 30s °C, which made long beach afternoons totally doable. Here’s how the trip unfolded — hotels I adored, meals I still dream about, and the easy packing rules I’m sworn to after days spent barefoot.

Больше всего меня удивило то, что август (да, август) может быть одним из самых комфортных месяцев для поездки на тайские острова: тепло, идеальные пляжные дни и — для нас — почти пустые пляжи, словно они были нашими. Погода на Ко Самуи в августе оказалась тёплой, с приятными дневными температурами, что делало долгие пляжные вечера очень приятными. Ниже — как прошла поездка: мои любимые отели, блюда, о которых я до сих пор мечтаю, и правила сборки чемодана, которые я безгранично советую после дней проведённых босиком.

Koh Samui felt like the softest start: reserved beaches, warm water, and not a crowd in sight. My absolute favorite hideaway was Vana Belle — their pool villas are the kind of rooms that make you forget you ever had a to-do list. Private pools, attentive, tailor-made guest care and an honest sense of calm that’s rare even on postcard-perfect islands. It’s the kind of place that reads like luxury but feels like someone carefully arranged serenity just for you.

On the other end of the spectrum — but still a gem — we found a more budget-friendly option: Chaweng Paradise (our villa felt like a small treasure with sea views mere steps away). For those who want sea-on-the-doorstep without the ultra-luxe price tag, this was a smart pick: a villa with a terrace facing the water and that rare island privacy.

На другом конце шкалы — но всё равно настоящее сокровище — более бюджетный вариант: Chaweng Paradise (нам посчастливилось жить в вилле с видом на море в трёх метрах от воды). Для тех, кто хочет море у двери и при этом не переплачивать за ультра-люкс, это отличный выбор: терраса, выходящая прямо на воду, и редкое островное чувство уединения.

Gourmet notes — I will never stop thinking about:

Sala Thai — classic, fresh, and really true to Samui’s flavors. (A definite revisit if you love local recipes.)
Benzo Sushi — perfect for nights when you want something light and refined.
Sabienglae — fresh lobster done right; island seafood is a reason to travel in itself.
Phensiri — authentic Samui recipes, many of them centuries old, prepared with pride.

Koh Phangan surprised me with how easy it is to escape the headline-Full-Moon scene. We stayed at Santhiya (Santhiya Koh Phangan Resort & Spa) — a dream of teak, bamboo and private corners. One practical luxury that mattered most: the hotel’s private speedboat transfer. Walking off the dock at the hotel rather than being herded with crowds made all the difference. If you, like me, value calm arrivals and departures, that private transfer felt indulgent and utterly worth it.

Ко Панган удивил тем, как легко здесь можно уйти от массовых тусовок Full Moon. Мы останавливались в Santhiya (Santhiya Koh Phangan Resort & Spa) — ода тёку и бамбуку, уединённым уголкам и тёплой атмосфере. Практическая роскошь, которая действительно имеет значение: у отеля есть частный трансфер на лодке. Высадиться прямо у берега отеля, а не быть втянутыми в общую массу — это очень ценно. Если вы любите спокойные приезды и отъезды, этот трансфер ощущается как маленькая роскошь и стоит своих денег.

There’s a little magic here called the bamboo wonderland — perfect for wandering, reading in the rain, and feeling like the world has slowed to a whisper. For dinners, we became regulars at 55 Beach Restaurant — toes in sand, a grill that won us over every night, and simple live music that made everything feel celebratory.

Здесь есть волшебное место — бамбуковая «страна чудес» — идеально для прогулок, чтения под дождём и ощущения, что мир замедлил ход. Мы почти всегда ужинали на пляже в 55 Restaurant: ноги в песке, гриль, от которого невозможно было устоять, и живая музыка, делающая вечер праздничным.

A delicious surprise: Anantara’s Yukinoya sushi on Phangan was as good as any I’ve had in Japan — delicate, precise, and somehow completely at home on an island. If you love sushi, don’t skip it.

Ещё один сюрприз — Anantara и их суши: на острове они были настолько хороши, что напоминали еду в Японии — деликатно и точно. Если вы любите суши, этот опыт не стоит пропускать.

Packing — the best travel styling tip you’ll get from me

This trip kicked any “what should I wear” anxiety out of my suitcase. You don’t need the wardrobe of a metropolis here. My uniform for nearly the entire stay: flip-flops (or barefoot), bikini, pareo, a light linen shirt, and whichever dress I would wear most at home. Pack light. Pack favorites. The islands reward you for the simplicity.

Мой гардероб почти на весь отдых: шлёпанцы (или вовсе босиком), купальник, парео, лёгкая льняная рубашка и то платье, которое вы носите чаще всего дома. Путешествуйте налегке. Берите любимые вещи. Острова радуют простотой.

Little rules I swear by after this trip

Go in the shoulder/low season if you can — you might find the beaches almost to yourself. (We did.)
Book at least one hotel with a private transfer if you value calm arrivals (Santhiya’s private boat is a lovely example)
Eat where the locals and hotel staff point you — the best dishes are rarely on the glossy top-10 lists.

August in Thailand taught me that island travel doesn’t always mean blistering crowds and bad weather. For us it was warm sea days, empty beaches, and more attention to made-to-measure service than I’d expected. Between Vana Belle’s pool villas, our little sea-view Chaweng villa, the cliffside calm of Santhiya and surprise-sushi at Anantara — this trip was an ode to slow luxury and delicious discoveries. If you want a trip that’s about gentle mornings, barefoot afternoons and meals you’ll dream about, put these islands on your list — and pack light.

Август в Таиланде доказал мне: островные поездки вовсе не обязательно означают толпы и плохую погоду. Для нас это были тёплые дни у моря, пустые пляжи и индивидуальное внимание, большее, чем я ожидала. Между pool-виллами Vana Belle, нашей маленькой виллой в Chaweng, уединением Santhiya и удивительно хорошими суши в Anantara — это путешествие стало одой медленной роскоши и вкусным открытиям. Если вы хотите отдыха про мягкие утра, босые вечера и ужины, о которых будешь мечтать — добавьте эти острова в список и собирайте вещи по-лёгкому.

Travel Light: Tips From The Stylist

I often get asked on social media how to travel light. Let’s see how you need to pack a suitcase without frills.
In fact, traveling light is a piece of cake. And it works best for people who travel often, like me. In a week I can change 3 locations, so I literally live on suitcases. And of course, I have already developed personal life hacks for traveling, including compact packing of suitcases.

В социальных сетях я часто получаю вопрос, как путешествовать налегке. Давайте разберемся, как же нужно собирать чемодан без излишеств.
На самом деле, путешествовать налегке — проще простого. И лучше всего это получается у людей, которые путешествуют часто, как я. За неделю я могу сменить 3 локации, поэтому я буквально живу на чемоданах. И естественно, что у меня уже выработались личные лайфхаки для путешествий, и для компактного сбора чемоданов в том числе.

Before you pack your suitcase, think about what are you going to do on the trip. Recently I have been to Istanbul, London, Forte dei Marmi and Milan. If I was going to a party, as it was in London and Forte dei Marmi, I thought over the image for this event in advance. So I understood what shoes and clothes would be needed. After that I select everything else to not drag a lot of things with me.

What about shoes, you need to understand what pair you use every day. You will wear it several times; at least 3-4 looks should be suitable for it. I have a basic set — Chanel ballerinas or loafers and boots with a small heel, which fit both jeans and classic trousers or a dress. If you wear high heels, add them to your suitcase too.

Перед тем, как собирать чемодан, подумайте, чем вы будете заниматься в поездке. Недавно я была в Стамбуле, Лондоне, Форте-деи-Марми и Милане. Если я ехала на вечеринку, как это было в Лондоне и Форте-деи-Марми, я заранее продумывала образ на этот ивент. Так я понимала, какая нужна будет обувь и одежда. Уже на базе этого я подбираю все остальное, чтобы не тянуть с собой много вещей.

Когда вы выбираете обувь, нужно понимать какая пара будет ежедневной. Ее вы наденете несколько раз; к ней должны подходить минимум 3-4 образа. Зачастую у меня базовый набор — балерины Chanel или лоферы и ботинки на небольшом каблуке, которые подходят как под джинсы, так и под классические брюки или платье. Если вы носите высокие каблуки добавьте их в чемодан тоже.

I usually take 1-2 pairs of jeans: 2 pairs if I’m moving in a “cold” direction and 1 pair plus a skirt if I’m moving to warm countries. Outerwear is a T-shirt, shirt, always a warm sweater, 2 jackets — lighter and warmer. I highly recommend pay attention to zip-up sweater. When it’s cold, you can wrap yourself in it, if it’s warmer during the day, just unzip it.
I advise everyone to buy a Uniqlo vest — it is compact, fits even in a small bag, but if it’s cold, you can wear it under any jacket or trench coat, and thereby warm up. The same can be done with a scarf — just wear it under a jacket or tie around your neck.

Из одежды я беру в основном 1-2 пар джинсов: 2 пары если двигаюсь в «холодном» направлении и 1 пару плюс юбку, если в теплые страны. Из верхней одежды это футболка, рубашка, обязательно теплый свитер, 2 пиджака — более легкий и теплый. Очень рекомендую для формирования экономного багажа в переходный период обратить внимание на кофты на застежке. Когда холодно в нее можно укутаться, если днем стало теплее — просто расстегнуть молнию.
Всем советую купить жилетку Uniqlo — она компактная, помещается даже в маленькую сумку, но, если холодно, ее можно надеть под любой пиджак или тренч, и тем самым утеплиться. То же самое можно сделать с шарфом — просто надеть его под пиджак или завязать на шее.

In my cosmetic bag, I take only the most necessary things, because I think that you can do 2-3 days without a full beauty routine. Be sure to put a pair of sunglasses in your suitcase. And I take silk scarves with me — they can also be worn under a jacket, made into a top or worn as a bandana.
Let’s summarise. If you are traveling to a warm destination, then your suitcase will most likely consist of a skirt, jeans, a pair of T-shirts and shirts, a polo and zip-up sweater, two jackets, boots and ballerinas. If this is a “cold” location, instead of T-shirts, we add warm shirts and sweaters.
The main thing that you will need to build on is your purpose of the trip. Think about how you can use the same clothes in several looks. That is, give preference to more versatile items in your wardrobe. These are the main rules, enjoy a comfortable journey!

В косметичку я беру только самые необходимые вещи, так как считаю, что можно обойтись 2-3 дня без полной бьюти-рутин. Обязательно кладу в чемодан пару солнцезащитных очков. И беру с собой шелковые платки — их тоже можно надевать под пиджак, сделать из них топ или носить как бандану.
Подытожим. Если вы отправляетесь в теплую страну тогда ваш чемодан скорее всего будет вмещать в себя юбку, джинсы, пару футболок и рубашек, поло и свитер на молнии, два пиджака, ботинки и балерины. Если это «холодная» локация, вместо футболок добавляем в чемодан теплые рубашки и свитера.
Главное, от чего нужно будет отталкиваться – ваша цель поездки, чем вы будете заниматься. Подумайте, как можно использовать одну и ту же одежду в нескольких луках. То есть, отдавайте предпочтение более универсальным предметам вашего гардероба. И будет вам счастье!

Best Places to Go in Mykonos

Mykonos is an island of 24-hour parties, so you are as busy as popcorn on a skillet here. You can meet and have fun with a huge number of stylish young people, who flock from all over the world. This summer, the island is so crowded, we were all packed in like sardines. Because after a long pandemic, everyone wants to breathe in the wind of freedom again. And in Mykonos you feel it as well as possible!

The island’s well-known architecture makes for a great backdrop for cool vacation photos. Lovely churches, white and blue houses, masonry between the sand — Mykonos cannot be confused with any other place on earth.

Location, of course, is very important. Therefore, I advise you to stay in a hotel or a villa closer to the most famous beaches and restaurants. These are proven top locations — their list has remained virtually unchanged over the past few years. I visited the most popular ones: SCORPIOS, BAGATELLE, NAMMOS, Principote and others.

Локация, как и везде, очень важна. Поэтому советую селиться в отеле или на вилле поближе к самым известным пляжам и ресторанам. Это проверенные топ-локации — их список практически не меняется последние несколько лет. Я посетила самые популярные: SCORPIOS, BAGATELLE, NAMMOS, Principote и другие.

My friend and I settled near the picturesque beaches of Psarou beach and NAMMOS. At NAMMOS, I recommend you to go for a late lunch, because by 5-6 pm they turn on the music louder and you can stay for a happy hour drink. You can also have lunch at Spilia Seaside Restaurant — this restaurant is located in a beautiful bay. The view here is picturesque, the dishes are huge and real yummy-yummy.

Мы с подругой поселились недалеко от живописных пляжей Psarou beach и NAMMOS. В NAMMOS я советую пойти на поздний ланч, потому что к 5-6 часам вечера там включают музыку погромче и можно остаться на happy hour drink. Также на ланч можно сходить в Spilia Seaside Restaurant — этот ресторан находится в красивой бухте. Вид отсюда открывается, как с картинки, порции огромные и очень вкусная еда.

For fashionistas, there is a huge shopping center on the island. However, the selection of goods, alas, is not the chicest — for me, as an Italian who is used to the best selections in Italian boutiques, there was not much to choose. But there are many collaborations with international luxury brands and resort collections. I found here real treasure — my new limited-edition bag from BVLGARI.

Для любителей шоппинга на острове есть огромный торговый центр. Однако селекция товаров, увы, не самая шикарная — мне, как итальянке, которая привыкла к лучшим селекциям в итальянских бутиках, выбрать здесь было особо не из чего. Из интересного — на острове представлено много коллабораций с международными брендами класса люкс и, соответственно, resort-коллекций. Я присмотрела там себе limited-edition сумку от BVLGARI.

For me, SCORPIOS is the restaurant with the best cuisine on the island. But the institution is famous not only for this, but also for its audience, excellent music and fun parties. However, you should not overdo with the look here — you risk looking too pretentious. I also advise you to enjoy the sunset in this place — the view there is indescribable!

Как по мне, SCORPIOS — это ресторан с лучшей кухней на острове. Но не только этим славится заведение, но еще и своей публикой, отличной музыкой и веселыми вечеринками. Однако, не стоит надевать сюда шикарные вечерние наряды — рискуете выглядеть слишком вычурно. not overdoing with the look Также советую насладиться закатом в этом месте – вид там непередаваемый!

On the territory of NAMMOS beach there is a DIOR pop-up store with charming decorations. This is another place for shopping and creating nice photos in Mykonos. DIOR has opened such pop-up stores in most of the major resorts — for example, in Ibiza, Capri, Dubai — but, in my opinion, Mykonos has the most interesting pop-up store of theirs.

На территории пляжа NAMMOS есть pop-up store DIOR с обворожительными декорациями. Это еще одно место в копилку шоппинга и создания креативных фото на Миконосе. DIOR открыли такие временные магазины на большинстве значимых курортов — например, на Ибице, Капри, Дубаи — но, по моему мнению, на Миконосе находится самый интересный их pop-up store.

For dinner, I recommend going to the BAGATELLE restaurant, which has recently opened here. The service here is a top notch. From the menu I want to highlight delicious fish dishes. There are also great sunsets and live music.

На ужин рекомендую сходить в ресторан BAGATELLE, который открылся здесь недавно. Сервис тут на уровне. Из меню хочу выделить вкусные блюда из рыбы. Также там классные закаты и играет живая музыка.

And if we are talking about style, which is welcomed on the island, I would call it as casual chic — not frilly, but not boring either. For example, I came to Mykonos with just one bag, not even a suitcase on wheels. A lot of people have asked me how I pack my luggage for vacation so well. The secret is that I really love Hermes square scarves, that can be worn as a top or a skirt. At the beach, I put them on my hips over my swimsuit. Here is such a magically stylish element of the wardrobe, which also takes up very little space in the bag.

Что касается стиля, который приветствуется на острове — это кежуал шик, не вычурный, но и не скучный. Например, я приехала на Миконос всего с одной сумкой, даже без чемодана на колесиках. Очень многие спрашивали у меня, как я так классно собираю багаж на отпуск. Секрет в том, что я очень люблю платки каре от Hermes, которые можно носить как топ или юбку. На пляже я ношу их на бедрах поверх купальника. Вот такой волшебно стильный элемент гардероба, который еще и занимает очень мало места в сумке.
